The Michigan Residential Code sets ground snow load by jurisdiction (Table R301.2(5)), and the northern counties carry figures well above anything in the Detroit area. A carport or pole barn engineered for Wayne County will not pass here, and it should not.
Every Northern Michigan structure we install is engineered to the load the code sets for that specific county, with heavy-gauge galvanized framing and a roof pitch chosen to shed rather than accumulate.
Permit review across Northern Michigan is split between small cities and the townships that surround them, and the line matters: an address a mile outside Traverse City or Petoskey is reviewed by the township, not by the city. We confirm which jurisdiction applies to your parcel before anything is fabricated, and build to the snow figure that county carries.
